By Hannah GunnellShelby County’s two senators have been busy this legislative session working on education and mental health bills, they said during the Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Update luncheon Friday afternoon.
Senator Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) said this session has been fast-paced. Leising serves on six committees: education, health, agriculture (which she chairs), natural resources, utilities and commerce.
“Health and Education meet every week,” she said. “Education is always a tough issue. I would tell you I have focused personally on what we can do to advance our kids beyond high school. I have been a strong proponent for the FAFSA bill. I think we’re going to get it to a place where we can get it to the House.”
